Abstract
Purpoe
To determine whether eyetrain ymptom predict eye condition in 6-year-old children.
Deign
Cro-ectional population-baed tudy.
Method
Report of eyetrain ymptom were ought in parental quetionnaire; 1740 children (79% repone) underwent eye examination (viual acuity, cover teting, cycloplegic autorefraction, and fundu examination).
Reult
Eyetrain information wa available for 1448 children; 220 (15.2%) reported eyetrain ymptom, including 60 (3.4%) who reported near work-aociated headache. Mot children (82.3%) had a normal eye examination, while refractive error, amblyopia, and trabimu were found in 15.0%, 3.6%, and 7.3%, repectively. Correponding rate for children without eyetrain were 9.9%, 1.4%, and 1.8%, repectively. Moreover, 78.7% of children with refractive error, 68% with amblyopia, and 58% with trabimu reported no eyetrain.
Concluion
Mot children complaining of eyetrain had a normal eye examination; wherea mot children with refractive error, amblyopia, or trabimu were free of eyetrain, making thi complaint a poor marker of eye condition in young children.
