Abstract
Purpoe
To examine influence of getational age and birth parameter on peripapillary nerve fiber layer (NFL) and macular thickne at age ix.
Deign
Cro-ectional tudy.
Method
The ydney Childhood Eye tudy examined a random-cluter ample of 1765 ix-year-old ydney chool children. Peripapillary NFL and macular thickne were meaured (tratuOCT, Zei, Dublin, California, UA). Birth parameter were extracted from health record. Multivariate analye were performed.
Reult
Higher birth weight children had greater peripapillary NFL, inner and outer (all Ptrend < 0.03), but not central or average macular thickne (both Ptrend > 0.1). Peripapillary NFL (Ptrend = 0.001), inner (Ptrend = 0.01), outer (Ptrend = 0.002), and average macular thickne (Ptrend = 0.02), but not central macular thickne (Ptrend = 0.5) wa greater in children with larger head circumference at birth. The central macula wa thicker in prematurely (<37 week) born children (195.0 μm) than thoe born at term (191.2 μm), P = 0.04.
Concluion
Birth weight and head circumference predicted peripapillary NFL and macular thickne. Prematurity wa weakly aociated with central macular thickne.
