Purpoe To report a cae of metaplatic quamou epithelial downgrowth after cataract urgery. Deign Interventional cae report. Method Clinical, laboratory, and hitologic finding are preented. Our tudy i in compliance with intitutional review board guideline. Reult A 76-year-old man developed anterior chamber inflammation five month after uncomplicated clear corneal cataract urgery. Depite antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapie, the inflammation perited. An extenive examination failed to demontrate an infectiou etiology or lymphoma. ubequently, the patient developed an incipient limbal leion and iri ma. Immunotaining of a biopy pecimen from the iri ma indicated an epithelial-derived tumor. The prephthiical and painful eye wa enucleated; hitopathology of the globe revealed a contiguou leion extending from the limbal ma to the iri tumor through the urgical inciion ite, a finding conitent with metaplatic quamou epithelial downgrowth. ytemic evaluation wa negative. Concluion After intraocular urgery, metaplatic epithelial downgrowth may occur a a conequence of occult ocular urface quamou neoplaia and maquerade a chronic inflammation; clinician hould be aware of thi rare complication.
