Purpoe To compare the prevalence and clinical coure of giant cell arteriti (GCA) among Hipanic and non-Hipanic patient. Deign Comparative cae erie. Method Two hundred fifty-even conecutive patient who underwent temporal artery biopy in our intitution from 1996 to 2002 were tudied. A propective telephone urvey wa conducted to determine race and Hipanic origin eparately by mean of methodology of the U Cenu Bureau. Reult One hundred thirty-four patient completed the interview, with 65 (49%) identifying themelve a Hipanic and 69 (51%) a non-Hipanic. Of the 32 repondent with biopy-proven GCA, all identified themelve racially a white, and 13 (41%) were Hipanic and 19 (59%) were non-Hipanic (P = .32). tatitically ignificant difference in age, preenting ymptom, and final viual acuity were not oberved among Hipanic and non-Hipanic patient with GCA. Concluion Although GCA ha been reported to be rare in Hipanic, we found the prevalence and clinical coure of GCA to be imilar in Hipanic and non-Hipanic patient.
