Purpoe To evaluate the effectivene of pneumatic retinopexy a an alternative technique for rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (RD) repair in teenager. Method We conducted a review of 19 patient (19 eye) younger than 20 year of age who had undergone pneumatic retinopexy a the initial procedure for rhegmatogenou RD between 1995 and 2002. Reult Fourteen boy and five girl (mean age of 17.1 year) were included in thi tudy. Two eye had a hitory of trauma. eventeen eye (89.5%) had myopia of > –3 diopter. The averaged refraction of the operated eye wa –6.11 diopter (range, –1.25 to –9.5 diopter). Macular detachment wa found in 13 eye (68.4%). ubretinal fibroi wa preent in ix eye (31.6%). Pneumatic retinopexy reulted in reattachment in 16 eye (84.2%) with one injection of ga. One patient required a econd injection of ga. Two patient needed additional cleral buckling to attach the retina. Diplaced ubretinal fluid and delayed reorption of ubretinal fluid were noted in four eye. Mean follow-up period wa 42.7 month (range, ix to 75 month). Concluion Rhegmatogenou RD in teenager can be treated with pneumatic retinopexy with an overall ucceful rate a in adult. More attention i required regarding the potoperative tage and follow-up period to enure urgical ucce.
