  • Abstract
Purpoe To evaluate correlation between retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickne with viual field (VF) enitivitie in eye with nonartertic anterior ichemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Deign Cae-control tudy in an academic, intitutional etting. Method One eye from 21 patient with NAION and 32 healthy participant were included in thi propective tudy. Humphrey viual field (HVF) enitivitie were obtained from tandard achromatic HVF tet (24-2 ITA). RNFL wa meaured with canning laer polarimetry (LP, GDx-VCC) and optical coherence tomography (OCT, tratuOCT). Correlation were evaluated between RNFL and enitivitie from global, hemifield, and regional location of the VF pertinent to the RNFL ditribution. A total of 15 NAION eye had inferior altitudinal HVF defect, and their global and regional RNFL wa compared with that of control eye. The main outcome meaure wa correlation between HVF enitivitie and RNFL. Reult Correlation of global, hemifield, and ectorial HVF enitivitie with RNFL were greater when RNFL wa meaured with OCT than with LP, except for naal and inferonaal ector. RNFL thickne wa far lower in the hemiretina correponding to the relative unaffected hemifield in eye with altitudinal VF defect compared with control. Concluion In patient with NAION, RNFL meaured by OCT provided better correlation to HVF change than LP did. Both intrument howed decreaed RNFL in NAION eye with altitudinal VF defect compared with control eye, demontrating lo of RNFL even in ector of the optic dik that correponded to relatively unaffected hemifield, uggeting greater damage beyond the extent etimated by VF method.
