Abstract
Purpoe
To document the central corneal thickne (CCT) among a group of Indigenou Autralian compared with a group of Autralian Caucaian individual.
Deign
Clinic-baed cae-control tudy.
Method
A total of 91 Indigenou Autralian from remote clinic in Central Autralia and 84 Caucaian ubject from a teaching hopital in outh Autralia were recruited. Each ubject underwent ultraound pachymetry, and reult were compared between group.
Reult
Mean ± D CCT for Indigenou Autralian for right and left eye, repectively, wa 511 ± 34 μm and 513 ± 35 μm; and 541 ± 31 μm and 543 ± 33 μm in Caucaian ubject (t = 6.96; P < .0001 for right eye and t = 6.56; P < .0001 for left eye).
Concluion
Indigenou Autralian exhibit CCT that i ignificantly lower than that of Caucaian ubject. Given that Indigenou Autralian are conidered to be at very low rik of developing glaucoma, low CCT value alone may not be ufficient to increae the rik of developing glaucoma in a particular race.
