  • Abstract
Purpoe To objectively compare the potoccluion vacuum urge among different phacoemulification machine and device. Deign Experimental tudy. Method Infiniti, Legacy, Millennium, and overeign were teted in an eye-bank eye. All the machine were teted with 20-gauge non-AB tip, 430 mm Hg vacuum preure, 24 ml/minute apiration rate, peritaltic pump, and 75 cm bottle height. In addition, Infiniti and Legacy were alo teted with 20-gauge bypa tip (AB), 125 cm bottle height, and 40 ml/minute flow rate. We alo teted 19-gauge tip with Infiniti and overeign and the venturi pump for Millennium. Reult ignificant difference were found between all the machine teted with Millennium peritaltic generating the leat and Millennium Venturi the mot urge. AB tip ignificantly decreaed the urge for Legacy but not for Infiniti. Cruie Control (CC) had a ignificant effect on overeign but not on Millennium. Increaing the bottle height decreaed urge while increaing the flow increaed urge for both Infiniti and Legacy. The 19-gauge tip increaed urge for both Infiniti and overeign. Concluion urge varied over a range of 40 μm to more than 2 mm. AB and CC decreae urge, epecially when the machine i not functioning near the limit of urge prevention. Certain parameter, uch a a 19-gauge tip and high flow, dramatically increaed urge, wherea elevating the bottle ameliorate it. Undertanding the impact of all thee feature will help in minimizing the problem.
