Deign
Propective, cro-ectional tudy.
Method
With a digital camera et at maximum focal ditance, the author photographed 92 children twice, each with a paper ruler taped to hi or her forehead. Image were opened on a peronal computer and the lower half of each eye wa cut out and dragged to the ruler to record corneal diameter. The coefficient of variation wa calculated for each eye, and nonlinear regreion analyi ued to correlate diameter with age.
Reult
Directly after birth, corneal diameter wa 9.98 mm, increaing to a plateau of 11.51 mm within the firt 24 month of life. The coefficient of variation wa 1.3%. Each meaurement took no more than a few minute.
Concluion
Thi method allow very precie, fat, noncontact meaurement of corneal diameter in newborn and young children.
