Abstract
Purpoe
To report the long-term refractive reult of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) in patient with thin cornea.
Deign
A long-term, retropective, non-randomized follow-up tudy.
Method
ixty-three patient (124 eye) (28 male and 35 female), who had a preoperative central corneal thickne (CCT) of le than 500 micron and completed at leat one year of follow-up examination after urgery. Thirty-five patient (68 eye) underwent PRK and 28 patient (56 eye) underwent LAIK.
Reult
Mean preoperative corneal pachymetry wa 484.95 ± 6.65 μm (range, 470 to 498 μm) and 482.38 ± 10.73 μm (range, 453 to 499 μm) for LAIK and PRK, repectively. No intraoperative complication were found in both group. None of the included eye developed potrefractive corneal ectaia. The mean predictability for the PRK group wa 0.08 diopter (D) with a tandard deviation of 0.40 D (range, −1.38 to 1.00 D), and the mean predictability for the LAIK group wa 0.14 D with a tandard deviation of 0.55 D (range, −1.25 to 1.33 D).
Concluion
Refractive laer urgery with LAIK or PRK in patient with thin cornea (le than 500 μm) eem to be a afe and predictable technique for myopic refractive correction.
