  • Abstract
Purpoe To report a 25-gauge trocar-cannula that enhance wound cloure and reduce the incidence of potoperative hypotony. Deign Development of urgical intrument. Method A 25-gauge cannula with a microvitreoretinal (MVR) blade trocar wa contructed. The reitance of inerting thi trocar cannula wa compared with that of the conventional 25-gauge trocar cannula (Alcon Laboratorie; Fort Worth, Texa, UA). Vitreou urgery wa performed on 55 eye with the trocar cannula with an oblique clerotomy inciion, and the reult were compared with thoe from 68 eye that underwent urgery with the conventional trocar cannula. Reult The reitance of inerting the trocar cannula wa le than that with the conventional trocar cannula. A temporary hypotony (intraocular preure [IOP] <6 mm Hg) wa found in one eye (2%) with the trocar cannula and in 12 eye (18%) with the conventional trocar cannula (P = .006, Fiher exact probability tet). Concluion The trocar cannula with a MVR blade wa effective in potoperative wound cloure and prevention of potoperative hypotony.
