Abstract
Purpoe
To compare the age at diagnoi of children with eotropia, exotropia, and hypertropia.
Deign
Retropective, population-baed cohort tudy.
Method
The medical record of all Olmted County, Minneota, reident < 19 year diagnoed with eotropia, exotropia, or hypertropia from January 1, 1985 through December 31, 1994 were reviewed.
Reult
The median age at diagnoi of eotropia (n = 380), exotropia (n = 205), and hypertropia (n = 42) wa 3.1 year, 7.2 year, and 6.1 year, repectively (P = .001). In the firt ix year of life, eotropia had the highet incidence and wa more likely to occur than either exotropia or hypertropia; exotropia predominated between age even and 12 year; and each form wa imilarly likely to occur between 13 and 18 year of age (P = .001).
Concluion
The age at diagnoi wa ignificantly different for the variou form of trabimu in thi population. Eotropia i the mot common form in the firt ix year of life; beyond thi age exotropia predominate until the teenage year when the three form have a imilar but decreaed incidence.
