  • Abstract
Purpoe To examine if the addition of (antegrade) balloon dacryocytoplaty to bicanalicular ilicone intubation affect the ucce rate in adult with incomplete naolacrimal duct (NLD) obtruction. Deign Propective, randomized trial. Method eventy eye of 70 patient with incomplete NLD obtruction and evere epiphora (Munk core grade 3 or 4) were treated randomly with dacryocytoplaty (Lacricath) and ilicone intubation (Ritleng; n = 35, group 1; mean age, 54.4 year; tandard deviation [D], 11.8 year) or ilicone intubation alone (n = 35, group 2; mean age, 53.5 year; D, 13.1 year; P > .05). The ilicone tube were removed after, on average, three month. At the viit, we aeed the grade of epiphora uing the Munk core. Complete ucce wa defined a Munk core of 0 or 1, partial ucce wa defined a Munk core of 2, and failure wa defined a Munk core of 3 or 4. Long-term Munk core were obtained through a telephone urvey nine to 76 month after urgery (mean, 43.4 in group 1 and 34.9 in group 2; P > .05). Reult Complete ucce wa reported by 18 patient (52%) in group 1 and by 20 patient (57%) in group 2. Partial ucce wa reported by one patient in group 1 and by one patient in group 2. No improvement wa reported by 15 patient (44%) in group 1 and by 14 patient (40%) in group 2. Difference between the two group proved to be not ignificant (P = .8, exact Chi-quare trend tet). Concluion In our patient with acquired partial NLD obtruction, treatment with a combination of antegrade dacryocytoplaty and ilicone intubation wa not aociated with a higher ucce rate compared with treatment with ilicone intubation alone.
