  • Abstract
    Purpoe To invetigate the incidence, characteritic, and urgical management of retinal detachment (RD) after laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) urgery in myopia. Deign Retropective, obervational cae erie. Method We retropectively reviewed the RD oberved in 18,342 eye (9,598 patient) that underwent LAIK for the correction of myopia. All patient had no hitory of corneal dieae, and preoperative examination, including a thorough fundu examination, were performed. Patient were followed up for a mean of 20 month (range, four to 27 month), and the clinical feature of the RD eye after LAIK were invetigated. Reult RD developed in ix patient, including two male and four female. The incidence of a RD after LAIK in thi tudy wa 0.033%. Mean degree of pre-LAIK myopia in thee eye wa −9.33 diopter (D; range, −6.25 to 14.00 D). The mean interval between LAIK and RD development wa 9.25 month (range, two to 18 month). All RD occurred pontaneouly and were managed with vitreoretinal urgerie. Retinal reattachment wa achieved at the firt RD urgery in all ix eye (100%) at a mean follow-up of 9.3 month (range, three to 18 month). Concluion RD after LAIK for correction of myopia i uncommon. Thi tudy uggeted no caue-and-effect relationhip could be proven between RD development and LAIK procedure in myopia. Clinician hould till be aware of retinal pathologic feature in patient undergoing LAIK.
