Abstract
Purpoe
To characterize the evolution of erou retinal detachment (RD) combined with diabetic macular edema (DME) uing optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Deign
Obervational retropective cae erie.
Method
In our intitution, 64 eye of 40 diabetic patient who had RD combined with DME were tudied. All patient had fluorecein angiography and everal OCT3 examination during follow-up. Foveolar neuroretinal thickne (NRT) and RD height were meaured. The evolution of OCT macular profile wa qualitatively aeed.
Reult
Mean follow-up wa 11.8 month. DME wa focal in 10 eye (15.6%), diffue in 17 (26.6%) and both diffue and focal in 37 (57.8%). Mean initial decimal viual acuity (VA), NRT, and RD height (± tandard deviation) were 0.35 ± 0.21, 346.88 ± 138.61 and 199.48 ± 139.8 μm, repectively. RD height did not correlate with VA (P = .23) or NRT (P = .31). In 13 eye (20.3%), NRT above the RD wa normal. In the 19 eye where DME improved during follow-up, RD diappeared before the maximal reduction of retinal thickne in even eye (36.8%) and after or imultaneouly with thi reduction, in 12 eye (63.2%). Among the 45 eye where DME worened during follow-up, RD diappeared from 15 eye (33.3%).
Concluion
In thi erie, RD height did not correlate with retinal thickening. The latter may appear before central neuroretinal thickening and diappear before or after it regreion. Conequently, RD doe not eem to be related either to the everity of DME or to it reorption.
