  • Abstract
    Purpoe To invetigate the clinical profile of patient with chronic anterior uveiti and intraocular analye poitive for intraocular Rubella viru infection and ae eventual imilaritie to Fuch heterochromic uveiti (FHU). Deign Retropective cae-control tudy. Method Clinical record of 30 patient with anterior uveiti poitive for intraocular antibody production againt Rubella viru by Goldmann-Witmer coefficient determination and/or polymerae chain reaction were reviewed and compared with clinical record of 13 patient with chronic anterior uveiti of undetermined origin. Multiple variable were aeed and patient record were evaluated at onet and at one year after their firt viit to the Univerity Medical Center Utrecht. Reult Patient with Rubella viru–aociated uveiti were younger at time of initial ophthalmologic preentation (P = .014). Rubella viru–poitive patient preented more frequently with unilateral ocular dieae (P < .001), keratic precipitate (KP; P = .014), iri atrophy and/or heterochromia (P = .051), aociated vitreou opacitie (P = .024), and cataract (P = .004). Alo, the combination of KP, abence of poterior ynechiae, cataract, and vitreou opacitie occurred more often in the Rubella viru–poitive group (P = .026) and the preence of three or four of thee criteria occurred more frequently in the Rubella viru–poitive group (P = .004). Concluion Rubella viru caue a ditinct clinical pectrum of ocular ymptom imilar to the FHU yndrome, which ugget that Rubella viru might be involved in the pathogenei of FHU.
