  • Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) and the molecular variants T174M and M235T of the angiotensinogen gene in a random sample of young normotensive males. The study group consisted of 70 subjects aged 18-27 years. ABP monitoring was performed with Spacelabs 90207 device. The two point mutations were detected using restriction digests of a mispairing polymerase chain reaction product. Results: (mean values and SEM after adjustment for age and body mass index) No significant differences between genotypes were found. Our results indicate that T174M and M235T molecular variants of the angiotensinogen gene, previously reported to be associated with essential hypertension, have no major influence on the ambulatory blood pressure in young normotensive subjects.
