Abstract
The present study was conducted to examine the effects of salt on the germination of pak choi seeds under different saline (NaCl) conditions. Six pak choi cultivars (‘Baiyesuzhouqing’, ‘Qingdi’, ‘Lichuandasuomian’, ‘Ai kang 5’, ‘Hanxiao’, ‘Shulu’) were used as seedling material and six salt treatment 0 (control), 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 mmol NaCl) were applied. The effects of 250 mmol NaCl, no germination were recorded. Low level of salt significantly improved the percentage of seed germination and seedling growth as compared to control. The result showed that increased salt concentrations caused decrease the germination percentage. These results suggested that 50mmol NaCl conditions could be useful to obtain higher seed germination percentages and seedling growth in pak choi compare to control.
