Abstract
This paper present a survey of some of the concepts concerning continuum models of porous ductile solids. The paper survey the work of Viggo Tvergaard (1990), Andersson (1977) and Berg (1970). It is a well known fact that failure by coalescence of microscopic voids is an important fracture mechanism in ductile metals. The paper will revisit some of the fundamental concepts governing material failure by void growth to coalescence.
