Screening of rice (Oryza sativa L.) genotypes for NaCl tolerance at early seedling stage

The experiment was aimed for assessing the response of 65 rice genotypes to NaCl stress at early seedling stage. The genotypes responses were compared using absolute values measuring shoot and root length, dry weight and fresh weight. All the characters exhibited some reductions under increased salinity levels at seedling stage. Based on heritability index, at 8 dS/m shoot length and root dry weight had highest amount of . Also in the basis of cluster analysis among genotypes at 8 dS/m by shoot length and root dry weight characters 3 groups obtained that groups 3 such as R2, Pus-ABA-834, Tarom Mahhali, Ghaem 1 and 8805 had highest amount of these character and therefore appropriate for breeding program.
