Abstract
Monitoring of autonomic nervous system tone during general anaesthesia could be important in providing appropriate balanced anaesthesia with less complications and better outcome. Heart rate vaiability has been shown as a use¬ful parameter for assessing ausympathetic and parasympathetic influences in healthy individu¬als and patients with different pathological conditions. In this paper heart rate variability was analysed in two groups of patients sched¬uled for elected minor abdominal surgery during induction with two intravenous anaesthetics: thiopentone and propofol. Patients were ran¬domly assigned to group I and group II. ECG was recorded continuously by Holter Trillium 3000 (Forest Medical) before the premedicationand till the end of surgery. The recording was later analysed by HRV Trillium software and the data were expressed as total spectrum power,VLF,ULF,LF ,HF and the ratio LF/HF. Data were also extracted for analysis in the Kubios software .There are no significant differences in the short term HRV between the gropups-
