Abstract
The development of large interferometers for the detection of gravitational waves has marked important technological advancement in the fields of stabilized lasers, low-loss optical components, low-absorption optical materials, and high-efficiency, high-power photodetectors. It can be presumed that advanced interferometers will be developed within the next 5-10 years. These (quantum limited) detectors will require further improvements in the laserʹs power and stability, and the optical and mechanical performance of all the components. New technologies have to be developed. We need to select and improve these technologies. Among many possibilities, this paper reviews some promising optical technologies.
