Radioimmunoassay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay techniques as aids to studying pituitary hormones and improving reproductive management of the one-humped camel

Little research has been undertaken on the reasons that fertility in the one-humped camel is low. Monitoring of various hormones, in particular the pituitary hormones (including luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, prolactin and growth hormone) by techniques such as radioimmunoassay and enzymeimmunoassay would help in the understanding of the physiological processes of reproduction. In order that these hormones can be monitored, however, they need to be isolated and characterized. This paper describes such isolation and characterization and then looks at some practical aspects of the application of immunoassays
