  • Abstract
A novel porous glass reactor for removal of dissolved oxygen (DO) using a reducing agent in ultrapure water production was studied theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical model provides a detailed analysis of the glass reactor for the DO removal from water. Numerical techniques using the finite difference have been employed for the solution of the resulting equations. The effects of various operating conditions and parameters such as water velocity, operating pressure and reaction rate constant on the DO removal have been examined. The simulation results indicate that the presence of a chemical reaction will not only improve the quality of the ultrapure water, but also dramatically increases the reactor capacities for the dissolved oxygen removal. Experimental data obtained from the glass reactor developed were compared with the theoretical results and capabilities of the reactors for the DO removal were evaluated.
