Abstract
A study is made of the effect of local heating on impurity fluxes in the Pfirsch–Schlüter regime. When the effect of the thermoforce on impurity ions is taken into consideration, the impurity flux can be reversed by heating the impurities. This concept may be implemented in experiments on Alfvén heating of plasmas in tokamaks. The RF heating power required to reverse the impurity influx is estimated.
