On the equality of q-dimension and intrinsic dimension

It is shown how a q-dimension can be defined in terms of data specific to a Hopf *-algebra and how this then coincides with the intrinsic dimension in the category of its finite-dimensional *-representations. The case of corepresentations of compact quantum groups in the setting of Woronowicz is also treated.
