On coconnected algebras

A universal algebra A is coconnected if every homomorphism from A2 to A is essentially at most unary. The paper explores this notion and shows, inter alia, that for certain congruence distributive and unary varieties, the abstract endomorphism monoids of their members and their coconnectedness are fully independent.
