  • Abstract
For more than 34 years, the National Black Nurses Association has (NBNA) has been at the forefront in the profession of nursing, advocating for the interests of the African American nurse and improved health care for the African American community. Now under the leadership of Bettye Davis-Lewis, EdD, RN, FAAN, the ninth president, NBNA continues to foster its mission to provide a forum for collective action by African American nurses to “investigate, define, and determine what the health care needs of African Americans are and to implement change to make available to African Americans and other minorities health care commensurate with that of the larger society.”
