Abstract
cis, trans-Dichlorobis(dimethyl sulfide)platinum(II) reacts with two molar equivalents of stannous chloride dihydrate to form
tris[chlorotris(dimethyl sulfide)platinum(II)] pentakis (trichlorostannyl)platinate(II), [PtCl(SMe2)3]3[Pt(SnCl3)5]. The platinum atom in the
cation shows square planar coordination whereas that in anion shows trigonal bipyramidal coordination. In solution, the compound
dissociates into [PtCl(SMe2)3][SnCl3] and [PtCl(SMe2)3]2[SnCl4].
