Scattering findings on disaccharide/water mixtures

Although the effectiveness of trehalose as cryoprotectant is proved, the underlying mechanisms have been so far unclear and the formulated hypothesis often contrasting. Experimental findings indicate that the bioprotection causes lie on the ‘solvent’, i.e. on the peculiar interaction mechanisms of trehalose with water, independently on the biostructure nature. q 2004 Elsevier B.V.
