Abstract
We experimentally investigate the ability of an all-optical 2R regenerator to suppress impairments caused by intrachannel four-wave mixing (IFWM) and intrachannel cross-phase modulation (IXPM), which are the two dominant nonlinear effects in 40-Gb/s pseudolinear transmission systems. The 2R regenerator suppresses amplitude fluctuations and shadow pulses induced by IFWM in 80-km transmission over standard single-mode fiber, allowing an increase of signal power by ~3 dB. However, the 2R regenerator shows little improvement for an 80-km TrueWave RS fiber, where timing jitter originating from IXPM dominates.
