Abstract
The optimal control of water quality model is considered. A regularized version of the pointwise control is proposed and analyzed. Here we prove that the regularized sequence converges to the standard control. A numerical algorithm is presented. The solution approach is a combination of a total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme for the shallow water equations and a lagrangian, purely deterministic particle approach for the convection–diffusion problem. We detail such a method and show computational results which illustrate the accuracy of this technique.
