Abstract
Fractal geometry is introduced into elastic–plastic fracture mechanics characterizing the morphology of crack surface. It is shown that the rising of the J–R curve is correlated to the ruggedness dimension (Hurstʹs exponent) of the crack surface. Experimental results are fitted. Our propositions differ from other currently used in the literature compromising the results therein presented.
