Abstract
Canola (Brassica napus L.) is one of the prominent cultivated food and medicinal plants in Middle Asia, North Africa and West Europe. Somatic embryos of rapeseed cv. Tallayeh were encapsulated in 2% sodium alginate to evaluate their response to different storage periods. The encapsulated somatic embryos (ESEs) stored for several period (10, 20, 30 and 40 days) at 4°C. Maximum conversion frequency of 55.5% was obtained from encapsulated embryos cultured on MS medium without plant growth regulators stored for 10 days. The longer duration of cold storage, caused the less in plantlet recovery. This work indicates that encapsulated somatic embryos of canola could be regenerated for a limited period time.
