Abstract
Welding is widely used for joints of many structures. In this paper, the effect of welding on dynamic characteristics is examined based on experiment. First, dynamic characteristics of simple specimens with welding are measured. Next, the effect of welding on random vibration and reliability for the first passage problem is examined by a theoretical method using an analytical model with response characteristics measured from experiment. Finally, the applicability of obtained results to actual structures is examined by an experiment using a frame model. It is concluded that the damping ratio increases when welding is used.
