Abstract
Whenaflowobstructionsuchasaspacerissetinaboilingtwo-phaseflowwithinanannularchannel,theinnertubeofwhichisusedasaheater,thetemperatureonthesurfaceoftheheatertubeisseverelyaffectedbytheexistenceofthespacer.Insomecasesthespacerhasacoolingeffect,andinothercasesitcausesthedryoutofthecoolingwaterfilmontheheatingsurfaceresultingintheburnoutofthetube.Inthepresentpaperwewilldiscusstemperaturefluctuationsinrelationtothechangeintheflowconfigurationnearthecylindricalspacerintransientboilingtwo-phaseflowcausedbythestepwisechangeoftheoperationparameterssuchastheheatflux,themassflowrate,andtheinletqualityofthetestsection.Asaresultitisconcludedthat:Eveniftheflowpatternchangesrapidlybyastepwisechangeofanoperationparameter,thetransitionofflowproceedssafelyprovidedthatthechangecausestheincreaseofvaporvelocity,i.e.theincreaseoftheshearforcewhichisactingonliquidfilmflow.Ontheotherhandifthechangecausesthedecreaseofthevaporvelocity,itmustbenoticedthatthetransientburnoutpossiblyoccursevenwhentheoperatingconditionafterthechangeislessthanthesteadyburnoutcondition.
