  • Abstract
    Theaxialvariationoffilmflowrateinannularregimewasanalyzedtopredictthecriticalheatfluxinwatersaturatedflowboilinginvariousverticalchannels.Intheanalyses,severalquantitiesincludingthedepositionandentrainmentratesofdropletswereevaluatedwiththecorrelationsthatwerebasedontheseparateexperimentaldataoffilmflowrateanddropletflowrateinannularflow;modelclosurewasachievedwithoutintroducingarbitraryconstants.Thepredictedresultswerecomparedwithextensivedataofcriticalheatfluxinflowboiling.Fairlygoodagreementswereobservedforthecriticalheatfluxesinroundtubeswithuniformandaxiallynon-uniformheatingandinnon-circularshapedchannelswithoutsharpcorners.Itishenceexpectedthattheimportantprocessesfortheonsetofcriticalheatfluxconditioninannularregimeweresatisfactorilydescribedinthemodel.However,thecriticalheatfluxesweregenerallyoverestimatedinthinrectangularchannelswithsharpcorners.Thenon-uniformdistributionofliquidfilminchannelcross-sectionwouldbetheprimaryreasonofthedisagreement.
