Abstract
EthylenecrackingtubesofHP40grade(25Cr–35Ni–0.4C)creep-resistantausteniticsteelwhichfailedafter80,000hservicewereinvestigatedforquantitativecavityevaluation.Theresultsshowthatthecreepcavityareafractions(Ω)presentlittledifferencefromoutersurfacetoinnersurfacethroughthethickness,andlargerdifferenceondifferenttubeoutersurfaces.TheΩobtainedfromtheoutersurfacecanstandforcreepdamagestateforethylenecrackingtubes.Therelationshipbetweencreepcavityareafractionandcontinuumdamagemechanicsisdiscussed.Atfailure,thecriticalvalueofdamagevariableD=1iscorrespondingtoΩ=2.8%measuredonthetubeoutersurface.
