Abstract
Pittingcorrosionisaseriousformofdegradationinsteamgenerator(SG)tubingofsomenuclearstations.Thenatureandextentofthepittingprocessisassessedthroughinspectionprograms,typicallyusingvariouseddycurrent(EC)techniques,whiletheimpactofpittingisminimizedthroughdepositremovalmaintenanceactivitiessuchaswaterlancingandchemicalcleaningofSGs.ThispaperpresentsaprobabilisticmodelofSGtubepittingcorrosionthatincorporatestrendsobservedfromalargeECinspectiondatabasefromanucleargeneratingstation.ThepittingoccurrenceprocessismodelledasastochasticPoissonprocessandthepitsizeistreatedasarandomvariable.ThemodelisstatisticallycalibratedwiththeavailableECinspectiondata.Themodelisappliedtoestimatetheprobabilityoftubeleakage,forcedoutagerateandthedistributionofthenumberoftubespluggedperSGinagivenoperatinginterval.Theproposedmodelisusefulinoptimizingstrategiesforthelife-cyclemanagementofSGs.
