Abstract
Thefieldoftensioned(sub-zeropressure)metastabilityoforganicandinorganicfluidsandtheirresponsestoexternalstimuliisunderstudyatPurdueUniversity.Uniquepropertiesrelatedtoenergystorageandsub-nanoscaleresponsetoexternalstimulihavebeenfoundthatgiverisetothecapabilityforcausinglocalizedsupercriticalstatesleadingtofluidboilingbyvisiblelightphotonsandotherfundamentalparticlesovereightordersofmagnitudeintheenergyrange(i.e.,fromthesub−eVtoMeVrange).Atheoreticalmodelisdevelopedforpredictinglimitsoftensionmetastabilityandvalidatedagainstexperimentaldata.Resonantacousticsandcentrifugalforce-basedsystemsaredescribedforattainingas-desiredtensionmetastablestatesalongwithtriggeringmechanismsfornano-to-macroscaleenergystorage-cum-release.Finite-elementmodelingandsimulationframeworkfordesignofsuchsystemswithexperimentalbenchmarkingaredescribed.Technologicalimpactsondiversefieldssuchasnuclearmaterialdetection,physics-basedspectroscopy,monitoringofpowerlevelsinnuclearsystems,generalcavitationphysicsoffluids,acousticallydriventhermonuclearfusion,andsupercompressionstatesattainmentarediscussed.
