Abstract
Passivesystemsareincreasinglydeployedinnuclearindustrywithanobjectiveofincreasingreliabilityandsafetyofoperationswithreducedcost.Methodsforassessingthereliabilityofthermal–hydraulicpassivesystems,thatissystemswithmovingworkingfluid,addresstheissuesinnaturalbuoyancy-drivenflowthatcouldresultinafailuretomeetthedesignsafetylimitsunderaccidentscenarios.Thisisreferredasdesignfunctionalreliability.ThispaperpresentstheresultsoffunctionalreliabilityanalysiscarriedoutforthepassiveSafetyGradeDecayHeatRemovalSystem(SGDHRS)ofIndianPrototypeFastBreederReactor(PFBR).TheanalysisiscarriedoutbasedontheoverallapproachreportedintheReliabilityMethodsforPassiveSystem(RMPS,EuropeanCommission)project.FunctionalfailureprobabilityiscalculatedusingMonte-Carlomethodandalsowithmethodofmoments.
