Abstract
Thisworkconcernsthedesignandsafetyanalysisofgascooledreactors.TheCATHAREcodeisusedtotestthedesignandsafetyoftwodifferentconcepts,aHighTemperatureGasReactorconcept(HTGR)andaGasFastReactorconcept(GFR).RelativetotheHTGRconcept,threetransientsimulationsareperformedanddescribedinthispaper:lossofelectricalloadwithoutturbo-machinetrip,10in.coldductbreak,10in.breakincoldductcombinedwithatuberuptureofacoolingexchanger.AsecondstepconsistsinmodellingaGFRconcept.Anominalsteadystatesituationatapowerof600MWisobtainedandfirsttransientsimulationsarecarriedouttostudydecayheatremovalsituationsafterprimaryloopdepressurisation.Theturbo-machinecontributionisdiscussedandcanofferahelporanalternativeto“active”heatextractionsystems.
