Abstract
Inthispaper,ariskevaluationapproachisappliedonHazardandOperabilityStudy(HAZOP).First,theconceptofthetraditionalfailuremodeandeffectsanalysis(FMEA)fortheriskprioritynumber(RPN)hasbeenadaptedandappliedtoHAZOPstudy.Then,aHAZOP_rpnconceptwascreated.TheHAZOP_rpnenablesevaluationoftheriskleveloverthesystemcausedbyanabnormalityonthephysicalphenomena.TheapproachcreatedfromthefusionbetweentheHAZOPandthetraditionalRPNhasbeennamedhybridHAZOP.Followingthis,afuzzyinferencewasestablishedoverhybridHAZOPsystemdefininganotherapproachtosafetyassessmentandriskestimation.Asanexamplecase,apassivesystemdesignedforremovingthedecayheatofanadvancedlight-waterreactor,wasused.ThesetofresultsdemonstratedthegreatadherenceofthehybridHAZOPapproachinthisclassofproblems.Itendorsesalsotheadvantagesofusingofafuzzyinferencesystemtomodeltheuncertaintyparameterslevelsinriskanalysis.
