Empirical global anharmonic vibrator spectra and the IBA model

It is shown that the remarkable nearly-universal anharmonic vibrator behavior recently discovered for yrast states in collective non-rotational nuclei is naturally reproduced by the IBA. The results shed light on the microscopic basis for the IBA.
