A direct limit on the heavy neutrino in tritium beta decay

On a combined tritium beta decay sample in excess of one billion events per keV at energies near 1.5 keV, a search for a 17 keV neutrino admixture has been performed using a derivative method. No heavy neutrino signal was observed. This direct result is independent of theoretical details as well as experimental subtractions and corrections.
