  • Abstract
ABSTRACT: Decreases in world forest resources and high demand for wooden materials have increased the importance of paper and composite manufacturing from agricultural residues as a substitute for the use of solid woods. This study is an attempt to investigate the anatomical and chemical properties of Roselle (Hibiscussabdariffa) stem as a substitute for the use of solid woods. Anatomical properties measured fiber length, fiber diameter, lumen and cell wall thickness 1279, 26/7, 10/66 and 8/21 micron, respectively for pith and 3030, 17/54, 6/88 and 5/33 micron, respectively for cork. Chemical properties measured cellulose, lignin, Alcohol-acetone solubility and ash 44/73%, 22/67%, 6/87% and 1/92%, respectively for pith, and 40/1%, 23/82%, 8/96% and 5/3% respectively for skin.
