Abstract
The dynamics of spin angular momentum in the fluctuon model of virtual particle exchange parallels the dynamics of linear momentum. The initiation and termination of spin 1 chains (photons, gluons, gravitons) is always associated with a change in the state of motion, or acceleration, of the absorbing particle and therefore with a compensating change in the angular momentum of the universe. The pattern of graviton exchanges in the universe will be altered, even if the initiated particle is not a graviton. This is required by the principle of equivalence, since the acceleration produced by chain initiation or termination cannot be distinguished from a gravitational effect. The analysis allows intrinsic spin to be given an extrinsic (Machian) interpretation in terms of the angular momentum state of the surrounding universe.
