Abstract
The focusofstudyinthispaperistheclassofpackingproblems.Morespecifically,itdealswiththe
placementofasetof N circularitemsofunitaryradiusinsideanobjectwiththeaimofminimizingits
dimensions.Differentlyshapedcontainersareconsidered,namelycircles,squares,rectangles,stripsand
triangles.Bymeansoftheresolutionofnon-linearequationssystemsthroughtheNewton–Raphson
method,thehereinpresentedalgorithmsucceedsinimprovingtheaccuracyofpreviousresultsattained
by continuousoptimizationapproachesuptonumericalmachineprecision.Thecomputerimplementa-
