In thisworkwepresentageneral(monoandmultiobjective)optimizationframeworkforthetechno- logical improvementofbiochemicalsystems.Thestartingpointofthemethodisamathematicalmodel in ordinarydifferentialequations(ODEs)oftheinvestigatedsystem, basedonqualitativebiological knowledge andquantitativeexperimentaldata.Inthemethodwetakeadvantageofthespecialstructural features ofafamilyofODEscalledpower-lawmodelstoreducethecomputationalcomplexityofthe optimization program.Inthisway, thegeneticmanipulationofabiochemicalsystemtomeetacertain biotechnological goalcanbeexpressedasanoptimizationprogramwithsomedesiredpropertiessuchas linearity orconvexity. The generalmethodofoptimizationispresentedanddiscussedinitslinearandgeometricprogramming versions.
