Abstract
This paperaddressesanextensionofthecapacitatedvehicleroutingproblemwherecustomerdemand
is composedoftwo-dimensionalweighteditems(2L-CVRP).Theobjectiveconsistsindesigningasetof
trips minimizingthetotaltransportationcostwithahomogenousfleetofvehiclesbasedonadepot
node. Itemsineachvehicletripmustsatisfythetwo-dimensionalorthogonalpackingconstraints.A
GRASP ELS algorithmisproposedtocomputesolutionsofasimplerprobleminwhichtheloading
constraintsaretransformedintoresourceconstrainedprojectschedulingproblem(RCPSP)constraints.
We denotethisrelaxedproblemRCPSP-CVRP.TheoptimizationframeworkdealswithRCPSP-CVRPand
lastly RCPSP-CVRPsolutionsaretransformedinto2L-CVRPsolutionsbysolvingadedicatedpacking
problem.Theeffectivenessofourapproachisdemonstratedthroughcomputationalexperiments
includingbothclassicalCVRPand2L-CVRPinstances.Numericalexperimentsshowthatthe
GRASP ELS approachoutperformsallpreviouslypublishedmethods.
